- A Jan. 14 Insight section excerpt from John Chipman’s book Death in the Family mistakenly said Barry McGinnis was the officer-in-charge (OIC) at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in 1996 when Tammy Marquardt began serving a life sentence for murdering her 2-year-old son. In fact, McGinnis was not working at the prison at that time and was not the guard who pointed at Marquardt’s stomach and said, "If you want that child to live, you don’t tell anyone what you’re in here for." Marquardt’s conviction was set aside in 2011 as a miscarriage of justice. She spent more than 11 years behind bars.
