Freelance photographer Joe Shine, who was at the scene shortly after the shots were fired, said no one was injured in the shooting but that police found shell casings on the ground. Police extended tape across Bidwell Avenue on the east side of MLK Drive and blocked traffic while investigators collected evidence.
A spokeswoman for Jersey City did not immediately respond to a request for information on the shooting.
The troubled intersection in the Greenville section of the city has been the site of several shootings within the last year. An NJ Transit bus was also struck by stray bullets near the intersection around 7 p.m. on Jan. 17. None of the passengers were injured, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said at the time.
A 28-year-old man told police in late January that he was shot in the area of MLK Drive and Bidwell Avenue, but authorities were unable to locate a crime scene, Morrill said.
On Nov. 30, police responded to Bidwell Avenue between MLK Drive and Ocean Avenue after shots were fired in the area at approximately 9:30 p.m. No one was injured in the shooting, Morrill said at the time.
