House Democrats are calling for an investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s relationship with Russia. Flynn has been under attack after reports that he spoke with the Russian ambassador regarding sanctions before Trump took office. Proponents of an investigation want to make sure Russia has not compromised the top levels of government. Trump’s supporters say the whole thing is a manufactured controversy and it’s really not that big of a deal. What do you think?
PERSPECTIVES
House Democrats are calling for a bipartisan investigation into Trump and Russia. Even if there is no connection, the fact that two of his closest advisers have resigned due to alleged connections to Russia is incredibly suspicious. An independent investigation would put all those concerns to rest. There’s nothing to fear if they have nothing to hide.
To protect the future of this great democracy, we must dig down to the root of this discomfiting Trump-Russia connection. We must create an independent, bipartisan commission to fully investigate and make public Russia’s interference in our election through its illegal theft and selective release of private emails, its dissemination of fake news, or by other means. Only an independent, bipartisan commission can dedicate itself and its staff to this crucial investigation full-time, without distraction. And only an independent, bipartisan commission can rise above the jurisdictional squabbles and perceptions of partisan bias that inevitably attach to congressional committees’ probes.
Rep. Eric Swalwell: Reports about Flynn raise more concerns about Russia
House Oversight Committee Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) says there is no need for a larger independent investigation. The Flynn matter is resolved with his resignation and the House Intelligence Committee is already investigating the claims of Russian influence on the election.
“I think that situation has taken care of itself. I know that the Intel committee is looking into the hacking issue,” Chaffetz told reporters.
Trump’s supporters are rallying around the hashtag #StandWithFlynn to express their support for Flynn and the Trump administration. Flynn’s supporters think he was pushed out because the establishment saw him as a threat to their power. To them, a call from an incoming member of the administration is no big deal.
Here are a few perspectives on why people are choosing to #StandWithFlynn.

#Flynn is an honorable man who felt the need to resign for giving VPOTUS incomplete information. All else is #FakeNews fabricated by RINOs.
