For some folks, the big event Sunday isn’t the Super Bowl, it’s the halftime show. The football game between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons is just hours of waiting.
Here’s quick calculation for those just counting down the minutes until the halftime show. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. EST. The average Super Bowl broadcast lasts about 3 hours and 35 minutes, but that’s including both halves and the about 30 minute halftime show. After a little quick math, it should take about an hour and half to get through half of the game and into the halftime show. That means the halftime show, this year featuring Lady Gaga, should get going at about 8 p.m. EST. But to be safe, it’s probably best to start watching at about 7:45 p.m. EST.
Lots of fans are eagerly anticipating Gaga’s performance, which she has hinted may just get political amid widespread protests against newly inaugurated President Donald Trump.
“The only statements that I’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” she said in a press conference ahead of the Super Bowl. “I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness. My performance will uphold those philosophies.”
There are lots of rumors about Gaga’s performance. She shot down the idea that BeyoncĂ© would appear with her on stage, but it does seem that the songs “A-Yo,” “Bad Romance” and “Perfect Illusion.” Singer Tony Bennett will join her in some capacity, at least through a video but perhaps onstage as well. Regardless of which rumors prove true, Gaga said she wants to make sure people get something out of her performance during the break from the game.
“I want to, more than anything, create a moment that everyone that’s watching will never forget,” she said.
