Missing in action
EDITOR: I have already voted by mail for the cannabis tax. I hadn’t read any opinions in opposition to it, and there were no arguments against it in the sample ballot. Now I read about all this opposition to the tax. Why was there no ballot argument submitted by the growers organization?
I wonder how many voters did as I did. I remembered Noreen Evans cute slogan “pot for potholes,. and seeing no opposition, I voted yes. I wonder how many other voters who use mail-in ballots did the same. Those in opposition did their cause a disservice by failing to submit an opposition opinion to the registrar of voters.

Stifling free speech
EDITOR: The story in Sunday’s Press Democrat about Nathan Morton being verbally accosted for wearing a build the wall T-shirt was just another prime example of the liberal left doing its best to shut down free speech by those with whom they disagree (“SR man accosted over #Buildthewall T-shirt”). They claim they’re for tolerance and free speech, but when a group of people or a single person has an opposing view, their views on free speech go out the door.
To ask Morton if he’s a racist just for wearing this T-shirt was outrageous. For the record: just because one might be a conservative or have some conservative thoughts doesn’t mean he or she is a racist. And to even go there just shows how ignorant the peace-loving liberals in our county can be. Shame on you.

More fake news
EDITOR: I opened my newspaper, and I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was full of fake news about the huge amount of rain we’ve had this year. Some so-called journalists gave unconvincing near-record rainfall totals and complained about repeated flooding along the Russian River. Ridiculous! They went so far as to report on storm damage in Southern California, although the alternative facts show the sky was clear and sunny with temperatures soaring into the high 80s. No mud slides or flooding happened in the Victorville area.
I went for a walk, and when I returned home my clothes had the appearance of being wet. I instinctively knew that was from fake rain, so I didn’t bother to change into dry duds.
The paper was so full of fake news that it was truly unreadable. Sad! I read it anyway, hoping to find at least one nice thing written about me, but it just wasn’t there. I may cancel my subscription. The paper also predicted rain on the way for the next few days, so I plan on sunbathing in my backyard. Why don’t you report on the history-making warm, sunny weather we’ve been having?

A history lesson
EDITOR: No matter what political party you belong to or how you feel about the current administration, check your politics at the door and attend the current production of “1776” at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park. It only runs until Sunday. The problems the country was having then are, in some ways, the same problems we have today. The cast is superb, as is the music. The performance is every bit as good as what you would see and hear in San Francisco. At the end of the show, you can’t help but feel proud of being an American.
