Monday was a lovely mild day for the metro area with high temps in the mid 50s for most locations. Over on the coast, Astoria tied a record high temp for the date with an outstanding 64 degrees (they just had snow on Feb. 5). Astoria’s last 64-degree temp on February 13 was in 1931.
Tuesday doesn’t promise as much warmth or much sun. A strong cold front pushing into the region will make its way into the valleys by tonight and early Wednesday morning. For today, expect some sun breaks in the morning followed by increasing clouds through the afternoon. The high is forecast for 51 degrees.
The front will bring a decent amount of rainfall through Thursday night. Some areas, especially near the coast will be windy with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
Predicted rainfall totalsNOAA
Wednesday’s clouds will bring 1 to 2 inches of new rain to the valleys by Thursday morning. The coast could see 3 to 6 inches of precipitation. Wednesday’s high will be 52 degrees.
But we’ve still got it better than the Gorge. With temperatures remaining near (or just below) freezing for Wednesday-Thursday, the National Weather Service expects areas of freezing rain and sleet in the Hood River Valley and through the Columbia River
Gorge, mainly east of Multnomah Falls. They just can’t catch a break out there. Limit travel through the Gorge if possible on Wednesday and into Thursday morning.
