A 39-year-old Seminole County man accused of physically abusing his 96-year-old grandmother and leaving her alone for four straight days, even though she was bedridden, on Tuesday settled his criminal case with prosecutors.
Thomas “Keefe” White agreed to no longer live with his grandmother and to relinquish the power of attorney she had given him.
He also agreed to get a mental-health evaluation, to take a caregiver’s class and to be supervised by a state probation officer for a year.
If he successfully completes those tasks, the criminal charges he faces — neglect of an elderly person and abuse of an elderly person — will be dropped.
When his live-in-grandmother, Lillian Moses, called for help last year, medics discovered her home alone with two broken bones and six severe bed sores. She told them White was her caretaker and he sometimes got angry with her and hit her.
She also said he had left her home alone for four days.
Defense attorney Denis Quintana said White had not harmed Moses and that she was confused because of medication.
