Smoke from a prescribed burn has caused a Lake County road to close, which might affect school bus routes Monday.

School officials say buses might be rerouted due to the temporary closure of County Road 42.

Tardies and absences related to driving conditions will be excused, officials said.

The burn is part of a number of fires the Florida Fire Service has been conducting near the Paisley area over the last few days.

The Florida Highway Patrol closed the road Sunday due to heavy smoke and fog that caused poor driving visibility.

“The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority,” said Sherri Owens, a school district spokeswoman. “All parents and employees are urged to drive with extreme care through this area Monday morning.”
