Bethlehem Catholic 45, Easton 40 – Rapid Recap

Bethlehem Catholic girls basketball team fought off Easton to clinch a 45-40 victory to win the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference title on Friday night at Freedom High School.

Turning point: Golden Hawks freshman Taliyah Medina stole a Red Rovers’ pass and found senior Tessa Zamolyi, who sealed the victory with a layup that gave the Golden Hawks a five-point lead with 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Top performers: Senior Neila Luma scored 12 points to lead the Golden Hawks. She had 10 points in the second half. Medina had 11 points with nine coming in the first half. Junior Hope Brown had seven points and Zamolyi added seven for the Golden Hawks. 

Easton senior Gabby Bloshuk scored 13 points. Fellow Red Rover senior Shelby Stocker had nine points on three 3-pointers and junior Leanna Deegan finished with eight.

What it means: The top-seeded Golden Hawks improved to 23-2 overall and remained unbeaten against local teams. The third-seeded Red Rovers fell to 21-4 on the season with three losses coming against Bethlehem Catholic. This one was a lot more competitive as the Golden Hawks won the previous meetings by 18 and 19 points, respectively.
