Bethlehem Catholic 47, Parkland 39 – Rapid Recap

Another postseason contest and another fourth-quarter gut check for top-seeded Bethlehem Catholic.

The Golden Hawks pulled away from Parkland for a 47-39 victory in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinals on Wednesday night at Freedom High School.

Turning point: Neila Luma scored a putback to push the Golden Hawks ahead 32-31 with 40 seconds left in the third quarter. The Golden Hawks scored the opening four points of the final period to go ahead 36-31.

Rachel Medlar brought Parkland back within two with a 3-pointer, but Bethlehem Catholic scored nine in a row (seven from the foul line) to put the contest on ice as turnovers piled up for the Trojans.

The Golden Hawks, who were unbeaten in league play during the regular season, also used a big fourth quarter to put away Freedom in the EPC quarterfinals.

Top performers: Luma had a game-high 13 points for Bethlehem Catholic. Natalie Rhine chipped in 10 points.

Emily Piston paced Parkland (17-6) with 12 points.

What it means: Bethlehem Catholic (22-2) advances to the EPC final to meet Easton 6 p.m. Friday back at Freedom. The Golden Hawks have posted two double-digit wins over the Red Rovers this winter.
