As social media continues to factor highly on a brand’s connection to its consumer base, DC Shoes recently sent out a big thanks as its Facebook page got its ten-millionth “Like.”
“We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the new year than as the first action sports brand to reach 10 million fans on Facebook. Facebook has been a great platform for us to connect with our audience and we can’t thank the 10 million friends of DC that helped us hit this milestone enough. 2013 is looking to be the best year yet for our brand and we look forward to sharing it with all our fans throughout the year,” said Jeff Taylor, SVP of Global Marketing at DC Shoes.
To celebrate, the action sports shoes and apparel brand launched its “10 Million Facebook Fan Giveaway” on January 3, promising 10 giveaways to 10 winners in 10 days. The online event ends January 12.
Founded in 1993 by Ken Block and Damon Way, the small San Diego County-based company grew into a global action sports brand, now sponsoring athletes in skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, moto, BMX, and auto.
Block races on the Monster World Rally Team and won the RallyCross bronze medal at last year’s X Games Los Angeles. Block is currently DC’s chief brand officer.
In 2004, surf brand Quiksilver acquired DC for a reported $87 million, and in 2010, DC moved to Quiksilver headquarters in Huntington Beach, Calif.
In other news out of the DC camp, the heavy hitters on its skate team, including Chris Cole and Nyjah Huston, are gearing up for a 12-day tour of Australia and New Zealand, starting on January 19 in Aukland.
