Oregon State has moved up one spot to No. 7 overall in the latest NCAA Tournament Selection Committee rankings revealed Monday evening.
The ranking keeps OSU projected as a No. 2 seed, but would likely move the Beavers out of landing in the same regional as No. 1 Connecticut, the four-time defending national champion. Baylor, the team OSU beat to advance to the Final Four last season, is ranked No. 2 overall.
OSU (22-2, 11-1 Pac-12) has won seven games in a row, including Friday’s 54-45 victory at Arizona State and Sunday’s 65-57 win at Arizona. OSU is a half-game ahead of Stanford for first place the Pac-12 standings, as the Cardinal hosts UCLA Monday night. The Beavers topped Stanford in double-overtime in Palo Alto earlier this season and will meet the Cardinal again in Corvallis on Feb. 24.
Stanford is No. 8 in the latest rankings, while Washington is No. 10, UCLA is No. 14 and Arizona State fell out of the top 16. The Pac-12 is the toughest conference nationally, according to RPI.
The Beavers next host USC on Friday and UCLA — the only team to beat OSU in conference play — on Sunday.
These rankings could shortly become somewhat obsolete, as, in addition to the meeting between Stanford and UCLA, No. 5 Florida State plays Miami, No. 13 Louisville plays No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 11 Texas plays No. 2 Baylor Monday night.
