Propelled by a record-breaking performance last week in Seattle, McKenzie Warren of Concordia has been selected NCAA Division II women’s athlete of the week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The senior from Sandy won the shot competition at last weekend’s Husky Classic in Seattle with a throw of 57 feet, 9 3/4 inches.

The mark broke the Division II record of 57-7 3/4 held for 14 years by Adriane Blewitt of Ashland.

Warren’s winning throw in Seattle was nearly five feet further than second-place finisher Brittany Mann, in her first season at USC after transferring from Oregon.

Warren ranks fourth among women college shot putters on all levels this year.

She also was honored the week by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Here is the USTFCCCA’s complete release on this week’s national athletes of the week.
