MotoGP had exciting plans to include Kazakhstan in its racing calendar for the first time in 2023. Unfortunately, due to delays in the completion of the track, the Kazakhstan round had to be postponed until 2024. Dorna Sports, the organizer of MotoGP, had initially set the date for the first Kazakhstan GP on the weekend of 14-16 June 2024. However, unexpected flooding in the region earlier this year led to the indefinite postponement of the event as organizers sought a suitable slot in the calendar.

A fortunate turn of events came when the second Indian Grand Prix faced uncertainties and was eventually canceled on 29 May due to financial issues. This cancellation opened up an opportunity for the Kazakhstan GP to take its place on 20-22 September 2024. The Kazakhstan GP will kick off a triple-header, followed by the Indonesian GP and the Japanese GP.

After the Pacific leg of the championship, MotoGP will head to Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia for another triple-header in October and early November. With the removal of the Indian and Argentina GPs from the 2024 calendar, two of the initially planned 22 rounds have been canceled. The Argentina GP, which was supposed to be the third round of the season in April, was axed due to government budget cuts following the election of a new president.

As of now, it remains uncertain whether the Argentina GP will make a comeback in the future. Hungary’s Balaton Park circuit had been designated as a reserve venue for MotoGP events if needed. However, the track’s current state does not allow it to host events on such a large scale. Recent announcements revealed that the World Superbike round scheduled at the venue had to be replaced due to this issue.

Despite the challenges and changes in the 2024 MotoGP calendar, fans can still look forward to thrilling races and exciting new additions to the lineup. The rescheduled Kazakhstan GP and the shift in locations promise to bring fresh dynamics to the competition, keeping enthusiasts on the edge of their seats throughout the season. Stay tuned for more updates as the world’s premier motorcycle racing championship unfolds its latest chapter.
