Elijah Garcia had to make a last-minute weight check to ensure his fight against Kyrone Davis would go ahead as planned. The 21-year-old boxer weighed in at 173 pounds, within the rehydration limit set by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. This was after Garcia struggled to make weight the day before, coming in at 163.2 pounds after shedding a couple of pounds.

Despite the weight issues, Garcia’s fight against Davis will proceed as scheduled, with the bout set to air live on Prime Video and Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) YouTube channel. The fight is part of a three-fight preliminary undercard before the main event featuring Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis defending his title against Frank Martin.

This is not the first time Garcia has had weight struggles, raising concerns about whether he has outgrown the middleweight division. After an impressive 2023 campaign, where Garcia moved up the rankings to become the No. 7-rated middleweight, his failure to make weight for the second consecutive camp will be reviewed by The Ring’s Ratings panel.

The fight between Garcia and Davis was initially scheduled to take place on a different card earlier in the year, but Garcia had to withdraw due to illness, possibly caused by a bad weight cut. Despite these setbacks, Garcia remains a promising young boxer with a bright future ahead.

Stay tuned for updates on Garcia’s performance and future fights as he looks to overcome his weight issues and continue his rise in the boxing world.
