Orient to Create Permanent Memorial for Justin Edinburgh
Leyton Orient has revealed plans to establish a lasting memorial for the late Justin Edinburgh at Brisbane Road. Edinburgh, who tragically passed away in 2019 at the age of 49 after suffering a cardiac arrest, had recently guided the O’s back into the English Football League.
The club intends to construct a ‘collage-like memorial’ using the tributes that were laid in Edinburgh’s memory. Leyton Orient’s director of football, Martin Ling, expressed the club’s gratitude for Edinburgh’s contributions, highlighting his pivotal role in the team’s journey from the National League to League One.
Having enjoyed a successful playing career that included winning the FA Cup in 1991 and the League Cup in 1999 with Tottenham Hotspur, Edinburgh transitioned to management with stints at Northampton Town, Gillingham, and Newport County before joining Leyton Orient in 2017. Under his leadership, both Newport and Orient secured promotions from the National League.
In honor of Edinburgh’s legacy, the JE3 Foundation was established to advocate for legislative changes regarding the availability of automated external defibrillators in health and sports facilities. The foundation also focuses on raising awareness about cardiac arrest and providing CPR training.
Justin’s son, Charlie Edinburgh, the founder and CEO of the JE3 Foundation, expressed gratitude for the club’s decision to create a wall of remembrance using the heartfelt tributes received in memory of his father. The upcoming memorial serves as a poignant tribute not only to mark the five-year anniversary of Edinburgh’s passing but also to celebrate his enduring impact on the club and community.
