The Surrey police are currently investigating a series of small explosions caused by homemade devices that occurred earlier this summer. The incidents began on July 19 when witnesses heard loud bangs and saw a group of young men leaving a forested area near 4th Avenue and 171 Street in South Surrey.
Reports of similar noises continued until August 9, prompting concerns among the community. The police response unit discovered remnants of a small improvised explosive device at the scene where the men were spotted on the first occasion.
One of the suspects is described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s, standing between 5’10” to 6″ tall and weighing approximately 175 lbs. He was wearing a white t-shirt, dark shorts, and dark shoes, and is known to ride a black mountain bike.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries resulting from these homemade explosives. However, the police are cautioning the public not to touch or handle any suspicious objects that may appear to be explosives and to leave the remnants undisturbed. They urge individuals to contact the authorities immediately if they come across any potentially dangerous devices.
Cpl. Bob Keay emphasized the dangers associated with homemade explosive devices, stating that they are both hazardous and unpredictable. He advised individuals to avoid approaching or tampering with suspicious objects and to report any concerns to the police as soon as possible.
