Never ones to turn down a good excuse for a mini-game collection, Nintendo is launching its new Switch portable/console hybrid with a titled called 1-2-Switch. It’s been shown off a bit at Nintendo’s Switch reveal event, but as one Reddit user discovered, Nintendo’s Japanese YouTube channel has been providing and even deeper look at the various bite-sized games included in the collection. Most are pretty basic, like milking a virtual cow, for example, but one of them — a game Nintendo calls simply “Baby” — might indeed be the absolute worst game concept in the history of video games.
The game, as far as I can tell, is essentially the worst babysitting experience imaginable, condensed into a couple of minutes of tending to a virtual infant who refuses to shut up. The player rocks the baby, which is displayed on the Switch tablet controller screen, in order to calm it down, but as soon as you stop it just starts crying again. So, in essence, it’s exactly like many real babies, and the game appears to accurately replicate the frustrating nature of trying to figure out exactly what babies are so upset about.
1-2-Switch is expected to have 28 mini-games in total, so even if Baby is a frustrating dud the entire package might still be worth the investment. After all, anyone who has played the WarioWare series knows that Nintendo’s track record with mini-game collections is actually pretty solid. That being said, whoever thought it was a good idea to turn one of the most frustrating aspects of childcare into a game that you’d play of your own free will obviously has a strange definition of “fun.”
