Starting Sunday, cyclists in Greater Montreal will be able to take part in the Go Bike Festival, which includes the Tour la Nuit and the Tour de l’Île.
The activities will take place from May 29 to June 5. The government announced funding of $441,500 to support the organization of the event.
“If Montreal can boast of being one of the largest cycling cities in the world, it is thanks, among other things, to the Go Bike Festival and the dedication of the people at Vélo Québec. Cyclists of all ages and all calibers are once again called upon to get on their bikes to criss-cross the streets of the metropolitan region,” said Chantal Rouleau, minister responsible for the Montreal region, in a press release.
The first of the scheduled events, the Metropolitan Challenge, will kick off on Sunday morning. It offers untimed routes ranging from 47 to 144 km, with the starting and finishing points at Pointe-Calumet.
In the evening, on Friday, June 3, cyclists will be able to take part in the Tour la Nuit, which will cross four boroughs in the east of Montreal in a 22-kilometre loop. Two starting points are proposed, at La Fontaine and Maisonneuve parks.
The program will end on June 5 with Tour de l’Île de Montréal, which offers a 36-kilometre route. Three starting points are proposed, at La Fontaine, MacDonald and Angrignon parks.
In Montreal, the arteries crossed by the events will be closed to automobile traffic.
