The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, has explained to the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the push that the Government wants to give to reach a great pact for housing, starting with Operation Camp, during the first work meeting that both have held this Tuesday in Madrid.

At the meeting, the head of Housing expressed her commitment to the speed of the macroproject, as well as to streamlining the deadlines and procedures for the construction of housing, as reported by the Ministry of Housing.

For this reason, the ministry led by Rodríguez and the Madrid City Council will soon hold two technical meetings, the first of which will take place on January 15, to continue advancing on this matter and address more details of this development, which will allow carried out the largest public housing project in Spain.

“Operation Camp represents a significant opportunity for urban development in Madrid, with the creation of protected housing and the transformation of a former military area into a modern and well-equipped space to also meet the social needs of citizens,” they have pointed out from the Ministry of Housing.

For his part, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has highlighted the two scheduled technical meetings – the first on January 15 – that they “will lay the foundations so that Operation Camp can be a reality.”

Almeida explained in a statement that both the ministry and the Madrid City Council have a “firm will to carry out this fundamental operation for the city” and that they also want to carry it out within “reasonable” deadlines and in the “shortest” manner. possible, due to the importance it has both in the field of housing policies and urban regeneration”.

“We must be able to resolve in a few years a process that has been entrenched for decades,” the mayor reaffirmed, while also showing his satisfaction and optimism with the ministry’s response to offer solutions to a transversal problem such as access to living place.

During the State of the Nation Debate, held on July 12, 2022, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced the unlocking of Operation Camp, which will entail promoting an approximate number of 12,000 homes in Madrid, with 60 % public protected housing and 40% free housing.

The unlocking was achieved after the agreement reached between the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and the Ministry of Defense so that Sepes, the Public Land Business Entity, could acquire the Camp land from the Institute of Housing, Infrastructure and Equipment of the Defense of the Ministry of Defense.

On October 3, 2023, the Council of Ministers authorized the autonomous body Institute of Housing, Infrastructure and Defense Equipment (Invied) to transfer, through the direct award procedure, 1,637,454 square meters of land corresponding to seven plots of the property called Military Camp Facilities in Madrid.

The purchaser is the Public Land Business Entity, Sepes, and the amount of the sale amounts to 271.9 million euros. Initially, Sepes owned 243,922 square meters of Campamento land, which represented 12% of that future neighborhood.

Now, after the payment, the entity dependent on the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda will own more than 93% of the land.
