The Bank of Spain’s registry of ‘crypto’ providers has added 11 new companies since mid-October, bringing the number of companies registered in this registry since its creation to 52, according to data compiled by Europa Press.
The latest to sign up were Alejandra Estrella Casada, Fintech OÜ, Alphagrowth, Etoshi Technologies, Bistamp Europe, Koinonos, Coinmerce, Bitledger, Rblde Unconventional, Bitx and Coinmotion OY. Of these, seven are domiciled in Spain, and the other four are in Estonia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Finland.
The Bank of Spain enabled this registry for cryptocurrency service providers in October 2021, following the second additional provision of Law 10/2010, of April 28, on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing.
The supervisor specifies on its website that Law 10/2010 includes these providers as obliged subjects for its purposes and introduces an obligation to register with the Bank of Spain, as well as compliance with the demands and requirements set forth in the prevention regulations. money laundering and terrorist financing.
Registration in the registry is only conditional on the existence of adequate procedures and bodies for the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism, and on compliance with the requirements of commercial and professional repute.
In addition, the agency emphasizes that registration in this registry “does not imply any approval or verification of the activity carried out by the providers of virtual currency exchange services for fiduciary currency and custody of electronic wallets by the Bank of Spain”.
