After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, government officials began arresting Japanese, German and Italian immigrants and made preparations to remove all people of Japanese descent from the West Coast.
The locations on this map show notable evacuation areas in Southern California, detention stations and assembly centers where Japanese people were detained before being sent to camps in Manzanar, Heart Mountain and eight other remote locations for the duration of World War II.
Notable locations included Griffith Park, the Pomona Fairplex and Santa Anita Park.
