It comes as no surprise that Wine Enthusiast named our very own Willamette Valley as the 2016 “Wine Region of the Year.” With several wineries offering overnight accommodations, we sought out to celebrate this win at the wineries where the fun doesn’t stop when the tasting room closes.
Youngberg Hill (10660 S.W. Youngberg Hill Road, McMinnville; 503-472-2727; youngberghill.com) creates nothing short of authentic wines and experiences in their tasting room and bed and breakfast, making it an ideal place to not only start but to wind down as well. The estate is set on a 50-acre hilltop surrounded by a 28-year old organic vineyard which produces award-winning pinot noir, pinot gris, chardonnay and pinot blanc wines. The nine-room (four of which are king suites) inn provides the perfect retreat including a two-course breakfast with salmon scramble, pancetta tarts, cornished baked eggs and pinot poached pears as possible features. With over 100 wineries and tasting rooms within a 20-minute drive, you’re not likely to run out of activities but the first step is leaving the cozy covered deck, that circles around the whole B&B, overlooking the vineyard and the valley to the Coast Range and the Cascades. At Youngberg Hill you can expect to be taken care of as well as the wine is; they share the same respect and philosophy for both! Tasting room hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; open year round. Call for reservations!
Wine Country Farm Bed & Breakfast and Armonea Winery (6855 N.E. Breyman Orchards Road, Dayton; 503-864-3446, 800-261-3446; winecountryfarm.com) takes the winery and B&B duo to the next level; now offering horseback wine tours. On just 13-acres, Joan Davenport’s family welcomes guests to her charming B&B boasting romantic views of the vineyard, hazelnut orchards, pastures and views of the snow topped Cascade Mountain range in the background. See these breathtaking views and more on the horseback wine tour where you are also able to visit other wineries; simply choose from a two-hour horseback tour or a carriage ride. Nine rooms and suites are outfitted with private baths, down comforters and Wi-Fi at this B&B; select rooms have fireplaces, decks and balconies. Guests are welcomed at check-in with a wine tasting as they familiarize themselves with their room and discover all the property offerings. At their adjacent boutique winery and cellars, guests receive a complimentary tasting of the estate wines as well. Spend an hour or all day on the property wine tasting, wandering the lovely grounds or exploring the trails on foot. Breakfast is a superlative start to the day at this beautiful winery! Hours are 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, as well as by appointment.
