STORRS, Conn. — Gabby Williams scored 26 and the No. 1-ranked UConn women’s basketball team won its 100th straight game Monday night, pulling away from No. 6 South Carolina 66-55 in front of a loud crowd that included a number of former Huskies stars at Gampel Pavilion.

The Huskies (25-0) have not lost since November 2014, in overtime at Stanford.
Trailing 29-28 late in the first half, the Huskies scored seven straight to take a six-point halftime lead. South Carolina (21-3) cut its deficit to 40-37 midway through the third quarter, but UConn closed the quarter on an 11-2 run.
A previous 90-game Huskies win streak (which surpassed the UCLA men’s team’s record 88-game win streak from 1971-74) was bettered last month by UConn’s current streak. If not for the 2014 Stanford defeat, the Huskies could be on a 147-game run.
UConn is pursuing a fifth straight national title, and 12th overall.
"We have no preseason All-Americans, but we have four really good players, and every time we need something, one of them comes up with something," coach Geno Auriemma said before Monday night’s game.
USF will close the regular season by hosting the Huskies at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27, then perhaps getting another shot at them in the AAC tournament that begins March 3.
Will the Huskies ever lose?
"It’s not if," Auriemma said before Monday’s game, "it’s just when."
On the men’s side, it was a wild night for top teams. Just days after being listed as a preliminary No. 1 seed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee, No. 4 Baylor — perhaps looking ahead to a key Big 12 game against Kansas — lost for the third time in five games, at Texas Tech. No. 8 Louisville won an overtime test at Syracuse, and No. 3 Kansas trailed throughout at home against No. 9 West Virginia and was in danger of losing in a game not over at press time.
Men
texas tech 84, no. 4 baylor 78: Keenan Evans scored 23 and Niem Stevenson had 21 as the Red Raiders host Red Raiders rallied past the Bears (22-4, 9-4 Big 12) after blowing an early 12-point lead. Texas Tech opened the game with an 11-0 run and used an identical spurt late in the game to go ahead to stay. Terry Maston led Baylor with a career-high 22 points.
NO. 8 LOUISVILLE 76, SYRACUSE 72, OT: The visiting Cardinals (21-5, 9-4 ACC) scored 10 consecutive points in overtime, including five straight by Anas Mahmoud. John Gillon forced overtime on a 3-pointer for the Orange with 40 seconds to go, tying it at 58. Syracuse took a 63-61 lead on two free throws by Andrew White, but Louisville scored the next 10. Syracuse’s Tyler Roberson missed two free throws that would have tied it with 2.7 seconds to go in OT.
AP POLL: The week’s biggest jump and fall came from the same game. SMU moved from 25th to No. 19 and Cincinnati dropped from 11th to No. 18 after the Mustangs ended the Bearcats’ 15-game winning streak Sunday. Duke, which beat North Carolina and Clemson last week, also moved up six places, to No. 12.
Women
NO. 8 TEXAS 92, No. 4 FSU 88, 2 OT: Brooke McCarty scored a career-high 29 as the visiting Longhorns (21-4) won their 19th straight. Shakayla Thomas scored 23 and Brittany Brown and Ama Degbeon added 13 apiece for the Seminoles (23-3), who missed their last six shots and were held without a field goal over the final 3:39.
