It will be just a few of the remarks made by Emmanuel Macron last Thursday during his debate with citizens in Bourg-de-Péage (Drôme), to put fire to the powder: this Monday, the CPME and the Medef in turn suspended their participation in the negotiations on unemployment insurance. The two organisations have been taken aback by the words of the head of State, who had reaffirmed his desire to see apply a bonus-malus on the employer’s contributions, one of his campaign promises designed to fight against the precariousness. However, since the beginning, the employers ‘ organisations think this measure hazardous and economically inefficient and socially. When negotiating current on unemployment insurance, they have proposed other systems to reduce the use of short-term. The unions, with no mark of enthusiasm, were not opposed. For them, the key is to get strong action.

“It is not certain that we tranchions, in one way or another, as soon as this Monday because it is a heavy decision. But it is essential to discuss”, explained the president of the Medef, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, which asked the State to “clarify its position”. Finally, a few hours later, the employers ‘ organisation argues, in a communiqué, that it is not “in a position to continue trading without a clarification prior to the government on the following that would be given to an agreement between trade union partners”. Pending these clarifications, the Medef has therefore taken the decision to suspend its participation in the negotiation”.

The main employers ‘ organisation is keeping step with the CPME, while also rising. This Monday, its president, François Asselin, has denounced on France Info a solution-government leading to “more negative consequences than positive” for the business as well as employees. Exceeded by the “deaf ears” of the authorities to respond to its proposals, the organization will “suspend participation” in the negotiations until the executive branch clarifies its position. “When you address the executive without response, the risk is that it will not be used for anything”, explained the head of the CPME, in anger.
