MADRID, 7 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Urbas has acquired the Murcian natural stone company Naisa, owner of one of the main open-air marble quarries in Mula (Murcia), with reserves valued at close to 1,000 million euros.

As reported by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) on Tuesday, this exploitation is one of the “most important deposits in Spain” currently in operation, with proven reserves of 2.8 million tons of marble.

This is the second exploitation that Urbas has acquired after the purchase in 2020 of the Silán feldspar mine (Lugo), with reserves of 12 million tons valued at 660 million euros.

Urbas has recently obtained the green light from the Xunta de Galicia to begin imminently the extraction works of this strategic mineral for the tile and ceramic industry.

The Spanish company has indicated that the addition to its business perimeter of this Mula quarry, which will be integrated into the group’s ‘Energy and Industry’ area, guarantees long-term recurring cash generation as it is a marble exploitation operational and working at full capacity.

Spain is one of the main producers of marble, with most of the deposits concentrated in the provinces of the Mediterranean arc (Murcia, Almería and Alicante). The production of natural stone, which also includes marble, grew in the last year to 1,700 million euros.

Urbas has highlighted that its international positioning in the main destination countries for Spanish exports “will be levers” to increase the expansion capacity and commercial growth of the Mula deposit, and will also serve to strengthen itself in markets such as Latin America, the Middle East and Spain. and Portugal.

“This project is a great industrial opportunity for Urbas”, the company pointed out, adding that more than a hundred direct and indirect jobs will be created with it.
