Anthony Aponte, 31, of West Sherman Avenue, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, eluding, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. He was also arrested for outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Aponte was parked at the Dunkin Donuts on South Delsea Drive when the managers called police about a suspicious vehicle.

When police arrived, they told Aponte to exit the vehicle but he refused, police said. Aponte resisted police and turned on the car — pulling it into reverse and driving it backwards into an unmarked patrol car, police said.

Two people were injured during the incident, including an officer who was struck by the car as it went into reverse.

Aponte continued to drive away before getting out and attempting to run away into a nearby wooded area. Police was able to arrest Aponte with help from a K-9.

Brittany Clark, 25, of West Sherman Avenue, was a passenger in the car with Aponte during the incident and was arrested after being found with an outstanding warrant and possessing hypodermic needles.

Aponte was held in Cumberland County Jail.
