TEANECK – A woman has filed a lawsuit against Holy Name Medical Center, claiming she was injured when her hospital gown became caught in the bed and she fell.

Jean Pantaliano claims in court papers she was hurt while a patient at the hospital on Oct. 3, 2015.

“When (Pantaliano) attempted to get out of her hospital bed, her hospital gown became caught on the bed, causing plaintiff to fall and sustain serious and permanent injuries,” states the suit, filed Jan. 30 in Bergen County Superior Court.

The suit also names the manufacturer of the bed, Hill-Rom Company, Inc. of Lakewood.

“The Hill-Rom hospital bed was inherently dangerous and defective and/or unfit and unsafe for its intended and reasonably forseeable use,” the suit states.

The suit accuses Hill-Rom of recklessly designing the bed with “wanton and willful disregard for the rights and safety of consumers.”

The suit claims the hospital was negligent by failing to replace the allegedly defective bed.

Teacher cleared of abuse charge

In addition to physical injuries, Pantaliano claims she suffered injuries of the “mind and emotion” and is now permanently disabled, impaired and in pain.

The suit seeks a jury trial, along with compensatory and punitive damages.

Messages left for the Holy Name Medical Center and Hill-Rom were not immediately returned on Friday.
