HAWTHORNE — A woman crashed her car into a pond Sunday morning, police said.

Two Hawthorne Police Officers went into the pond at Goffle Brook Park at about 9:30 a.m. to rescue the woman with the help of a few passing motorists, Chief Richard McAuliffe said.

She was not injured, but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, McAuliffe said. Police and fire personnel stayed on scene to fish the car out of the pond.

Sleet on Sunday has made driving tricky on roads in northern New Jersey.
