After independence referendum in Catalonia, Spain’s King Felipe VI addressed sharp accusations against regional government in Barcelona. “With ir irresponsible behaviour, y can endanger stability of Catalonia and whole of Spain,” said head of state on Tuesday evening in a television address. “In view of this situation of extreme importance,” it is duty of “legitimate” governance to ensure ” constitutional order and normal functioning of institutions”.
Previously, on Tuesday, two days after independence referendum, protesters with blockades had paralysed traffic throughout region. Hundreds of thousands protested against central government in Madrid. The city police in Barcelona spoke in late Tuesday evening even of 700 000 participants.

Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy reaffirmed his willingness to “dialogue under law”, but was strongly criticised by opposition parties for brutal crackdown of many police forces in Catalonia. On Sunday, nearly 90 percent of voters had a stake of 42 per cent according to leadership in Barcelona for secession of Kingdom of Spain voted.
Indirectly, Catalan regional president, Carles Puigdemont, expressed his willingness to talk. He explained that final outcome of referendum could not yet be announced, since counting of votes was not yet finished. According to law on referendum that regional Parliament had adopted against its own rules of procedure, a victory of proponents of secession must declare independence within 48 hours of announcement of result. The Spanish Constitution, however, forbids division of a region. Puigdemont undertaken Spanish media, he tries to gain time, since his plan to declare independence unilaterally is not supported by any EU state or even Washington.

Rajoy received support for his course against regional government by Chairman of Group of European People’s Party (EPP), Manfred Weber (CSU). The MEPs of Conservative People’s Party (PP) led by Rajoy are members of EPP Group. During a debate in Parliament, Prime Minister Rajoy defended his confrontation course, but was severely attacked by opposition Socialists (PSOE) for police actions. In recent weeks, PSOE has still supported attempts to prevent independence referendum by means of police. Rajoy has also lost support of Basque Nationalist Party, which had hirto supported budgetary policy of its minority cabinet. In Madrid, refore, furr early parliamentary elections are not excluded.
