Community First Credit Union announced Thursday that is has garnered more than $200 million in assets for the first time in its 56-year history.

The Santa Rosa-based credit union said its deposits at the end of 2016 were at $181.3 million, an increase of 8.4 percent from 2015.

Community, formerly known as Sonoma County Schools Credit Union, had a 4.8 percent decrease in loans, at $93.7 million, due to issuing fewer real estate loans because of the housing crunch. However, it set a record on car loans at $44.6 million, which was a 12 percent increase.
