Two people suffered burns in a house fire in Lafayette this afternoon that may have been caused by an explosion, and a dog also was injured.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 1000 block of Modred Street at about 4:15 p.m. on a report of a fire.

Lafayette Fire Chief David Friedel said two people were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with burns, and the dog was taken to the Lafayette Companion Hospital.

Friedel said there were reports of an explosion that was possibly gas-related, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
