MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio

Suspicion, Marsol Road:

A Cleveland man, 23, was arrested for violating a temporary protection order Jan. 19 when he was located on the property of the Drake apartments, where his ex-girlfriend, and protected person, resides. He said he was there to visit a friend, who has some items of his, but could not identify the friend or say at which apartment he lived. Officers also asked why he had a steak knife in the pocket of his hoodie. He said it was partially for protection and also because he forgot he had it there after cutting up some chicken at his home earlier in the day.

Harassment, Longridge Road:

A woman said Jan. 25 she was behind on rent payments for her house and the landlord was constantly texting her. Officers spoke to the Highland Heights man, who said he only sends texts in response to her text messages. It was determined the woman would be moving out soon and arrangements would be made for her to drop the keys off at the police station. Both agreed to stop contacting each other in the meantime.

Welfare check, Chelmsford Road:

A Dominion gas company employee said Jan. 20 a customer threatened to shoot himself because he missed an appointment with the company. Officers spoke to the man, 45, who said he was just upset with himself because he missed the appointment and it set him back in placing the house on the market. He said he does not wish to harm himself.

Theft from building, Golden Gate Boulevard:

A Costco employee said Jan. 18 a woman left a used pair of boots in a box, where she took new boots from and left the store with them on her feet without paying for them. The staff and officers were able to identify her as a 48-year-old Texas woman, who was in the store with a woman from Alliance. She subsequently contacted the store and said she had forgotten to pay for the boots, valued at $150. She made full payment and the Costco staff asked for no further assistance.

Theft, Eastgate Drive:

A woman, 88, reported Jan. 19 her wallet was stolen from her purse at Marc’s while she briefly left it unattended to help an unknown woman who had asked her questions about sweeteners in products. Officers believe the woman distracted her while someone stole the wallet from the purse. A credit card that was inside the wallet was found to have been used fraudulently to make a $200 purchase at a Walmart store shortly after the theft.

Criminal damage, Washington Boulevard:

A woman said her boyfriend had broken her iPhone by bending it over his knee around 1 a.m. Jan. 15. She said they had been arguing because he wanted to borrow her car so he could go pay $40 to his heroin dealer so there would be no trouble. The man, 25, was arrested Jan. 19 behind Speedway and officers noted he dropped a hypodermic needle at the time. The woman told the man’s probation officer about the incident, hoping he could get help for his drug addiction.

Attempted theft from auto, SOM Center Road:

A resident of Coppertree apartments reported Jan. 23 someone shattered the rear driver’s side window on her vehicle while it was in the parking lot. There was nothing missing from the vehicle.

Officers found a second vehicle in the parking lot that day with a window broken out on it. The registered owner of the vehicle did not come speak with officers, who noted she had an active warrant out of Beachwood.

Attempted grand theft, Chatham Way:

A man reported Jan. 20 someone tried to steal his father’s vehicle while it was parked at the Hamilton House apartments. The front driver’s side window had been pried open and the steering column and ignition were damaged. There were no suspects identified.

Counterfeiting, SOM Center Road:

An Atlas Cinemas manager reported Jan. 24 a counterfeit $100 bill was received at the theater sometime over the previous week, but was not discovered at the time. He was unable to say who may have passed it. He said he will be working with his staff on ways to easily identify counterfeit money.
