SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio

Theft, Warrensville Center Road:

A woman reported Jan. 22 her handgun was stolen from her vehicle when she took it to Al Paul Auto Wash. She said it was under the passenger’s seat and she had forgot she put it there. Surveillance video showed an employee clearly removing the gun and placing it into his pants pocket. Officers arrested the South Euclid man, 50, at his Cedar Road home the following day. He said the gun was not inside the apartment and a search of it confirmed his claim. Reports indicate the man has an extensive criminal history.

Theft, Warrensville Center Road:

A Cleveland man, 29, was arrested at Walmart Jan. 25 for the theft of a pair of pants, jacket and hat. He put all the clothing on top of clothes he wore into the store.

Harassment, Buxton Road:

A woman said Jan. 25 her ex-boyfriend keeps calling and texting her and has driven by her home to try to find her. She said he also has tried to contact her through her 12-year-old niece and believes he has had inappropriate contact with her. Officers contacted the Mayfield Village man, 58, who said he is only contacting the woman because he wants to retrieve four of his chairs from her house. Officers retrieved the chairs for the man and gave him a criminal trespass warning.

Theft, Mayfield Road:

Two Cleveland men, 50 and 53, were arrested at Giant Eagle Jan. 26 for the suspected theft of 36 cans of Red Bull and other groceries, valued at a total of $118. One of them tried to pay for some of the items, but the purchase was declined because there was a zero balance on his Ohio Direction Card.

Disturbance, Greenvale Road:
Officers responded to a home Jan. 17 where two women both claimed they were threatened to be killed each other. Officers learned one of the women was not on the lease, but had been staying in the basement. An argument had ensued when the heat was shut off to the basement. The woman, who was on the lease, allowed the other to stay overnight after she agreed to move out the following day.

Harassing communication, Golfway Road:

A woman, 42, reported Jan. 23 she was receiving harassing phone calls and Facebook messages from the wife of a man she was dating. She said the woman, 51, wanted to meet her to discuss things and even contacted her ex-husband to advise him of the situation. Officers spoke to both women, who agreed to stop contacting each other. The younger woman said she did not wish to continue her relationship with the woman’s husband.

Fraud, Wandsworth Road:

A woman reported Jan. 24 she was scammed out of $659 by a woman she met through Craigslist to arrange the sale of furniture. The suspect had had deposited money into her Paypal account and asked her to wire the money to a shipper in Indiana. The woman did and then learned she had been directed to a fake Paypal website. She only had contact with the suspect through email.

Recovered property, Warrensville Center Road:

A Cleveland man, 21, was charged with receiving stolen property Jan. 25 after he was found in a car in the Panda Express parking lot. The temporary tag on the car was reported stolen out of Cleveland. The man said he bought the tag for $40 from a girl at a car wash where he is employed. He said he had no idea it was stolen, despite the fact it was marked with the make and model of the vehicle in which it was registered.

Violation of a temporary protection order, Avondale Road:

A woman reported Jan. 23 her husband came to her home while she was at work and took two cell phones from her daughters. She said he called her and told her would be waiting there when she got home and he would spit on her and pull her hair. Officers responded to the home, but the man had left. They learned he was in violation of a protection order that prohibits him from having contact with the woman and her daughters. A warrant was issued for the arrest of the 36-year-old East Cleveland man, who also told the woman he would not return the cell phones until she paid his cell phone bill.

Fraud, South Green Road:

A woman said Jan. 23 a check for $2,671 was deposited into her account at an ATM in Richmond Heights and subsequent purchases and withdrawals were made totaling over $1,000. One withdrawal, for $780, was made at a bank in Cleveland and two purchases were made at the Maple Heights Giant Eagle. Her bank eventually removed the amount of the deposit after learning the check was fraudulent. The check had been drawn from a resident’s account. The woman said she spoke with the man and he told her the check had been stolen and he reported it to the police.

Stolen vehicle, South Green Road:

A Uhaul truck was stolen from the business around 9 p.m. Jan. 22 about 15 minutes after it was dropped off at the property. Surveillance video shows an unknown male breaking a drop box and taking the keys to the truck. Keys to a second truck, which was still in the lot, were also taken. An employee said a locksmith would be called to change the locks on that truck.

Noise complaint, Colony Road:

A woman reported Jan. 21 there were party guests at a neighboring house that were throwing bottles and cans onto her garage roof. Officers found about 100 people in the backyard at the home of the party. The renter of the home, a 20-year-old man, was cited for loud noises. The party was dispersed and the remaining guests cleaned up the garbage in the yard.
