NORWALK, Ohio — After just over three weeks of Donald Trump in the White House, M. Elizabeth “Liz” Smith of Norwalk apparently had seen enough.
Smith, 87, died Monday at a hospice center while surrounded by family, according to her obituary.
And it’s in that obituary that Smith, who was active in the Huron County Democratic Party, sees a silver lining at the end of a long life:
“Liz is smiling now, not to be living during the Trump presidency,” it says.
According to the Sandusky Register, Smith had seen a similar sentiment in another obituary and found it humorous.
“She doesn’t like the man, she never has, thought he was a pompous ass,” Smith’s daughter, Deborah Lucal, tells the Register.
While it’s rare, other people have used their obituaries to make a political point. In 2015, a North Carolina man’s death notice ended with “Also, the family respectfully asks that you do not vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016.” A man in Massachusetts made the same request in his death notice in 2016.
In his January 2016 obituary, a Pittsburgh man urged people not to vote for Trump.
