OTTAWA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will travel to Washington Monday to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

“They look forward to discussing ‎the unique relationship between Canada and the United States of America and how we can continue to work hard for middle class Canadians and Americans, together,” Kate Purchase, Trudeau’s director of communications, said in a statement.

While the two leaders have spoken by telephone several times, this will be their first face-to-face meeting.

The meeting comes after several cabinet meetings have made their own trips to Washington this week to meet with their U.S. counterparts and forge relations with the new Trump administration.
