Fire crews are battling a grass fire near Rabbit Mountain Road in unincorporated Boulder County, according to police radio scanner traffic.

The Rabbit Mountain Fire, located north of Ute Highway and along Rabbit Mountain Road, was initially 1 acre in size but grew to about 50 acres, according to scanner traffic, though it is slowly being contained.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the fire began at around 5 p.m. near 6300 Ute Highway and has since burned several unidentified structures.

Residents and livestock east of 6303 Ute Highway to 75th Street and Rabbit Mountain Road North of Ute Highway are being advised to evacuate.

The fire is currently moving north, Boulder County Sheriff’s Division Chief Heidi Prentup said.

Life Bridge Church in Longmont is currently open for evacuees, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said. The Boulder Fairgrounds is also open for large animals.

With warm, windy and dry conditions expected to last through the next couple days, a red flag warning has been issued until 6 p.m. on Tuesday for Boulder and Weld counties, according to officials.
