CLEVELAND, Ohio – “The Walking Dead” Season 7 has been all about discovering new communities in a post apocalyptic world that once seemed so small.
Some of the communities have been good (The Kingdom and Hilltop), while others have been very bad (The Saviors’ sanctuary).
As if things couldn’t get more crowded, we met yet another group at the end of Sunday’s mid season premiere, titled “Rock in the Road.”
In search of Father Gabriel, Rick and company head back towards the houseboat he and Aaron visited a few episodes back. They’re then surrounded by hundreds of survivors from a group we presumably haven’t seen before.
We know it’s not the Saviors, since Simon visited Alexandria earlier in the episode. And we’re certain it is whoever may have forced Gabriel to steal the Safe-Zone’s food supplies and drive off at the start of the episode.
So what is this mysterious group all about? We can make the assumption that the person in boots spying on the Safe-Zone during the finale is with these people.
Several spoiler blogs around the Internet (led by The Spoiling Dead Fans) have alluded to a group of junkyard people who come into contact with Rick’s group.
This appears to be their introduction. They’re a large group of survivors who live in a junkyard that includes a fighting pit that one or members of Rick’s group may have to prove themselves in.
But it’s unclear which side of the potential war between Rick’s group and the Saviors this new community is with. Though in the preview for next week, Rick’s already making his pitch.
And don’t go looking to the comic book for clues. So far, no one has been able to find a connection between the junkyard kids and any group featured or mentioned in Robert Kirkman’s comic book.
And, in case you’re wondering, Father Gabriel is probably still alive. Though, it might be the last time Rick puts him in charge of guarding Alexandria.
