A Wauconda man was charged Monday after an eight-hour standoff with police last week, police said.

Police were called to a home in the 600 block of East Bonner Road at 4:40 p.m. Monday, January 30, for a domestic in progress and met with the parents of Joseph T. Koza in the driveway, Wauconda police said in a news release.

Koza’s parents told police that he cut himself and poured gasoline through the house. Koza spoke to police but refused to leave the house. Several agencies were called in to assist during the standoff, including Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Illinois State Police SWAT, ILEAS and Wauconda Fire District.

Koza surrendered at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, and was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital for a psychological evaluation.

He was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of reckless conduct and two counts aggravated assault. He posted 10 percent of the $75,000 bond and was released.
