Bexar County District Attorney Nicholas “Nico” LaHood was in court Wednesday, prosecuting a murder case involving a San Antonio man accused of killing a woman while she sat in her car.

Miguel Martinez was 27 when he was charged with murder in the death of Laura Carter, 33. Police said she had her hands in her pockets, sitting in her vehicle in the 300 block of Arrid Drive on the Southeast Side, when she was shot in the head. Her body was found Jan. 11, 2015.

About two weeks later, police arrested Martinez without incident during a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Southwest Military Drive.

LaHood is prosecuting the case along with Jason Goss, an assistant district attorney. This is the third case LaHood has tried since being elected in 2014.

The trial is being heard in the 437th state District Court, presided by Judge Lori Valenzuela.

If convicted of murder, Martinez, now 29, faces a maximum of life in prison.
