There was something in the air at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angeles on Sunday.
A little thing called love.
Yeah. People came to celebrate Mass. But in the process, they celebrated decades of matrimony.
For some it was the celebration of new love. For others, it was the acknowledgement of long-lived lives together.
But young or old, it was love, as more than 60 couples — celebrating anniversaries ranging from 25 to 71 years of matrimony — renewed their wedding vows.
Participating couples had the chance to stand together and renew their sacramental marriage pledges at both English and Spanish-speaking Masses.
The idea, for the Church, was to promote the overall strengthening of marriage around the world. At the end of the Mass, couples were photographed with Archbishop Jose Gomez and received a certificate.
The action was in tandem with World Marriage Day, which “honors the beauty of loyalty, sacrifice and joy in daily married life of couples,” according to the cathedral.
World Marriage Day itself received the Apostolic Blessing of Pope John Paul II in 1993.
