A man who Los Angeles police believe to be a gang member was shot in the right ankle on Monday night in North Hollywood, authorities said.
The incident was reported at 8 p.m. in the area of West Magnolia Boulevard and Vineland Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Gary Chilingarian on Tuesday morning.
City News Service reported that the victim and his friends went to the Ralphs supermarket at the location, but police do not believe the shooting happened at a supermarket and that the victim may have shot himself.
It was unclear where the shooting occurred, as the victim — a man in his 20s — was uncooperative and did not give information about the location or suspects, Chilingarian said.
“He didn’t have the circumstances behind it,” Chilingarian continued, adding police believe he is a gang member.
The man was transported to a hospital after the shooting and is in stable condition, the sergeant said.
If anyone has additional information on the shooting, they are requested to contact the LAPD North Hollywood station at 818-623-4016.
