Michael A. Wollaver, 36, knocked and forced his way inside when a resident opened the door, Lower Township police said in a news release on Tuesday.
Wollaver attacked the man and then tried to slash a second person who attempted to intervene at the house on Fulling Mill Road in Villas, police said.
During the struggle, Wollaver dropped his knife and his mask became dislodged as the fight moved out the back door to a rear porch, according to authorities.
Police then arrived and Wollaver tried repeatedly tried to elbow one of the officers in the face as he struggled with them. He was eventually handcuffed, police said.
Wollaver was charged with burglary, three counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and weapons offenses. The Villas resident was sent to the Cape May County jail, but is no longer listed as an inmate there on Tuesday morning.
