Barry (Grant Gustin) has to fight Grodd (voiced by David Sobolov) in front of his fellow sentient gorillas in next week’s episode of “The Flash.”
In “Inside The Flash” featurette for Season 3, episode 13, executive producer Aaron Helbing revealed that the first installment of the Gorilla Grodd two-parter features a “Flash gladiator fight in an arena full of screaming gorillas.”
“It might be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on television,” Helbing said of the special effects-heavy moment in the episode.
The gladiator fight is probably one of the sequences that Helbing was describing during an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month. “There are some sequences in the two episodes that are unbelievable,” he told the news outlet at the time. “They’re epic and unbelievable in scale and scope.”
In episode 13, Barry, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Julian (Tom Felton) travel to Earth-2 Gorilla City to save Harry (Tom Cavanagh) from Grodd. But as they trek through the forest, the team falls into a trap and is immediately captured by Grodd.
To prevent them from escaping, Grodd locks them up in cells and dampens their powers. The ape, however, seemingly gives the group an opportunity to get out of the Gorilla City alive when he invites Barry — using Harry as a medium of communication — to a gladiator fight.
Meanwhile, Jesse (Violett Beane) — who delivered the news of Harry’s abduction to the team at the end of Season 2, episode 12 — stays on Earth-1 to help Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) take down a metahuman that can control gravity. With most of the team gone, H.R. (Cavanagh) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) are forced to guide the young speedsters from S.T.A.R. Labs.
“The Flash” Season 3, episode 13, titled “Attack on Gorilla City,” airs on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
