One man is dead and another was arrested following a SWAT response to a Little Village home early Monday, officials said.

Police launched a death investigation after initially being called to the building in the 3400 block of West 23rd Street about 7:45 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. After nearly five hours the standoff ended when one squad car drove into the alley behind the building and shortly after, other law enforcement vehicles began to disperse.

Police later said a 68-year-old man was found dead inside the home. He suffered from a gunshot wound to the head, police said. Officers also took into custody a 37-year-old man who lived at the home, but authorities did not say whether the younger man was arrested in connection with the older man’s death.

"A weapon was recovered from the scene," according to a news release.

From about 8 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m., a portion of 23rd Street was closed to traffic going west on 23rd Street and a perimeter of about three blocks was set up and guarded by officers, with roads blocked off by emergency vehicles. Police at the location during the incident could not confirm whether anyone was in danger.

Law enforcement officials surrounding the home for hours repeatedly called to those inside from the street, using a megaphone. At some point it appeared a remotely controlled device was sent into the home.

Neighbors said the men were father and son.
