BURLINGTON TWP. — The floor of an elementary school here will have to be replaced after testing last month reportedly revealed traces of mercury in the gym floor.

According to CBS3, the rubberized gym floor at the B. Bernice Young Elementary School, installed in 1994, was found to have mercury in it.

Vandalism, harassment reports rise

The report adds that school administration plans to replace the floor within the next month and that traces of the element fall within federal limits.

The effects of mercury on children depends on exposure, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, but can impair mental and motor skills.
