STILLWATER — A town man who posted an ad online seeking to hire someone to kill his girlfriend as he watched was arrested by State Police, who had been posing as the prospective hitwoman, authorities said.

Richard R. Morin Jr,, 46, was arrested Thursday, arraigned and sent to Saratoga County Jail after failing to post $20,000 bail, troopers said.

Morin placed an online ad in January in hopes of finding a woman who, for a fee, would meet him at a remote location, where she “would then cause his girlfriend’s demise while he watched,” police said.

Investigators replied and corresponded with Morin, who allegedly sent a $50 down payment, police said. He was arrested before any meeting took place.

Morin is due back in Stillwater Town Court on Wednesday.
