CHERRY HILL TWP. — A township man who volunteers with the Girl Scouts of America was arrested Friday for allegedly possessing child pornography, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
Phillip Sheppard, 42.
Phillip Sheppard, 42, was charged after detectives from the prosecutor’s office High Tech Crimes Unit executed a search warrant early Friday morning at his Cherry Hill home.
According to authorities, “numerous” digital media devices inside Sheppard’s home were seized and an on-site preview of his computer allegedly revealed images of child pornography.
The investigation began, the prosecutor’s office said, after detectives reportedly noticed “activity indicative of child pornography coming from an IP address associated with Sheppard’s residence.”
Sheppard, who authorities said works as a software engineer, is also a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of America. The Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey is headquartered in Cherry Hill.
A media representative for the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Sheppard’s volunteer capacity or possible contact with children.
Couple’s 2005 disappearance still a mystery
Prosecutor’s office detectives were assisted by members of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations – Cherry Hill Division, the Waterford Township Police Department and the Cherry Hill Police Department Tactical Team.
Sheppard was charged with one third-degree count of possession of child pornography by summons and released, authorities said.
