"Birthday Sex" singer Jeremih recalled meeting fellow South Side native Chance the Rapper and collaborating on their recently released holiday mixtape in a new interview.

"Chance is my dog. That’s my brother. We work in the same studio in Chicago. He’s always been supportive. When I first dropped the ‘Late Nights’ mixtape (in 2012), he was there at my release party and I didn’t even know who he was. Since then we’ve built a friendship. If he ever needs anything, I’m here," Jeremih told Billboard.

Jeremih and Chance dropped the surprise mixtape "Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama" in December. Jeremih said they did that project in a week-and-a-half.

"I bumped into him at CRC Studios and he asked what I was working on. I told him, ‘Man, I’m just doing something for my fans for Christmas.’ He was like, ‘(Expletive) it. Let’s hit them.’ I’ve never been in the Christmas spirit ever. My whole family was dancing to ‘Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama.’ My grandpops was dancing to it," Jeremih said.

Chicago’s Chance the Rapper made history Sunday at the Grammy Awards.

Chance went on to win three Grammys, including for best new artist, while Jeremih said he is working on a new project, "Later That Night," and plotting a tour for this year.
