CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man on probation for robbing a Bedford Heights restaurant is accused of stabbing a 68-year-old man in the face Wednesday during a home invasion.
Steven Henderson Jr., 27, is charged with aggravated robbery. A warrant was issued for his arrest Thursday. He is not in police custody.
Henderson was squatting in the man’s apartment building, according to police reports.
The attack happened about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the man’s home on West 33rd Street between Denison and Archwood avenues in the city’s Brooklyn Centre neighborhood.
Henderson pushed his way into the man’s apartment, demanded money and keys, and threatened to kill him, according to police.
He stabbed the man several times with a box cutter, police said. The man kicked Henderson in the groin in an attempt to fend him off.
Henderson stabbed him a few more times and shoved him into a back room, according to police. Henderson grabbed the man’s keys and took his 2007 Chevrolet Impala, police reports say.
Neighbors found the man bleeding from the face in the hallway and gasping for air, police reports say.
Officers, who found the man lying in a pool of blood, reported seeing a trail of blood through the man’s apartment, according to police reports. He was taken to MetroHealth in critical condition.
The man told police he knew the robber because he gave him a ride to Bedford on Tuesday, police reports say.
Later on Tuesday, the robber took the man’s phone, but the man was able to get it back, according to police reports.
Henderson was sentenced in April in connection with a robbery at the Subway restaurant on Aurora Road in Bedford Heights.
Henderson on Jan. 29 wore a ski mask and forced two employees to hand over $330 at knifepoint, according to court records.
Bedford Heights police officers tackled him outside the restaurant. Police found him with the mask, knife and cash.
Henderson eventually pleaded guilty to robbery and abduction and was sentenced to five years on probation.
